Art Deco Car Garage reimagined as a Hotel.

This project transformed a Grade II listed Art Deco building into a luxury boutique hotel. A carefully designed extension to the north wing, two additional rooftop floors, and new basement levels created space for 73 guest rooms and suites, the Colony Grill Room and American Bar, a residents’ lounge and bar, a private function room, spa with hammam, and gymnasium. The works involved the complete removal of the existing interior, with the retained façade lifted and suspended while major basement excavations were carried out.

ROOM - Art Meets Hospitality Design

An inhabitable 30-tonne sculpture by Sir Antony Gormley, entitled ROOM, crowns the building’s south wing as a striking piece of public art. Rising 10 metres high and clad in steel, the modular structure forms a unique bedroom seamlessly connected to one of the hotel’s suites.

“I would like to acknowledge Jonny's contribution to the realisation of ROOM, his professional attitude and determination have been an essential part of this project. His creative and pragmatic approach to the architectural challenge contributed greatly to the quality of the final work. Jonny's energy and enthusiasm, combined with his architectural understanding and attention to detail, have been invaluable.”
